Instant helps merchants build converting Shopify pages with AI agents. More than 22,500 Shopify brands use it to create homepages, product pages, landing pages, and other storefront experiences without waiting on a traditional development cycle.
For Doeke Leeuwis, founder and CTO of Instant, the product challenge was not simply helping an agent generate another page. It was giving the agent enough visual context to create storefronts that feel consistent with each merchant's brand.
The use case
An AI page builder can only stay on-brand if it knows what that brand looks like. Instant needed a dependable way to turn a customer's site into practical design context: colors, type styles, and components that its agent could apply while building.
Before the new flow, Instant's interface made the gap explicit. No Brand Kit meant the AI had no stored visual system to guide its layouts.
The team also wanted customers to hand the agent a URL as inspiration for a landing page. That called for more than a logo lookup. Instant needed the underlying page content, HTML, and rendered visual reference in a form its agent could use reliably.
Looking beyond Firecrawl
Instant started with Firecrawl, then compared alternatives recommended by an LLM. Context.dev stood out because it covered both sides of the problem: brand and style guide data for consistent generation, plus straightforward access to HTML and screenshots without the blocking issues the team wanted to avoid.
That combination gave Instant a better fit for the product it was building. Brand context could guide the output, while page context could help the agent understand a reference URL.
Production in under a day
The migration moved quickly from evaluation to working software.
"Switching from Firecrawl to Context.dev was incredibly easy. The integration itself was up and running within an hour, and the developer experience and output quality were both noticeably better. Within a day, we were fully set up and ready for production."
The first milestone arrived within an hour: the integration was running. Before the day was over, Instant had completed the setup and was ready to use it in production.
For a small product team, that speed matters twice. It shortens the migration itself, and it lets the team judge the new provider against real output instead of a long integration plan.
Turning a URL into a working Brand Kit
With Context.dev in the flow, Instant can give its customers a Brand Kit that the agent understands and applies. The generated kit captures a usable color palette and typography choices, then carries them into new and edited sections automatically.
Instead of asking a merchant to translate their visual identity into a prompt every time, Instant can establish the design context once and let the agent work from it. The result is a faster path from a blank canvas to pages that belong to the same storefront.
The Brand Kit is one half of the workflow. The other is inspiration by URL. Context.dev also gives Instant the HTML and screenshots behind a reference page, so the agent can reason about both its structure and its appearance. Customers can point to a page they like, and Instant has the context it needs to turn that reference into a new landing page.
The outcome
Context.dev now supports two core jobs inside Instant's AI builder:
- Consistent storefront generation: Brand Kits give the agent the colors, typography, and visual direction it needs to build pages that stay aligned with the customer's identity.
- URL-based inspiration: HTML and screenshots let customers use existing pages as references when asking the agent to create a landing page.
The switch also improved the experience behind those features. Doeke saw noticeably better developer experience and output quality, with the full move completed in less than a day.
Key benefits
- Working within one hour: Instant had the Context.dev integration running in under an hour.
- Production-ready in under a day: the team completed the migration and setup before the end of the day.
- Brand consistency built into the agent: customers can establish a Brand Kit that guides every new or edited section.
- Visual references the agent can use: URLs become usable inspiration through reliable page content, HTML, and screenshots.
- Better output and developer experience: both improved noticeably compared with Instant's previous setup.
A stronger foundation for AI page building
Instant did more than replace one web data provider with another. Its agent gained a shared context layer for brand identity and web references, the two inputs it needs to create pages that are both fast to generate and recognizably on-brand.
For Doeke and the Instant team, that foundation took less than a day to put into production.
Building an agent that needs to understand how a website looks as well as what it says? Context.dev gives your product brand data, page content, and rendered screenshots through one developer-friendly platform.
