Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the Context.dev brand intelligence and web scraping API suite.

Am I billed for failed requests?
No. You are not billed for failed requests or requests where we are blocked (rarely happens). Credits are only consumed on successful responses.
What is Context.dev?
Context.dev is a brand intelligence and web scraping API platform. From a single API key, you can fetch any company's logo, colors, fonts, NAICS code, SIC code, social profiles, address, and description from a domain — and scrape any URL as HTML, Markdown, sitemaps, images, or screenshots. One key, every endpoint.
Which APIs are included on the Context.dev free tier?
All documented APIs. Work-email signups get 500 one-time API credits at 30 req/min plus 10K one-time Logo Link requests; personal-email signups get 250 one-time credits at 10 req/min. The same key works across the API reference sidebar.
How is Context.dev different from Brandfetch, Clearbit, and Firecrawl?
Most competitors solve a slice: Brandfetch does logos, Clearbit (now HubSpot Breeze) does company enrichment, Firecrawl does crawling. Context.dev unifies brand-data and web-scraping behind one API, so you don't stitch together five vendors and five contracts.
Can I use Context.dev for AI agents and RAG?
Yes — that's a core use case. The Markdown, Crawl, Extract, and Screenshot APIs are designed for AI agents, RAG ingestion, MCP servers, and tool-using LLMs. Brand, Fonts, and Styleguide data can also render brand-aware agent interfaces from a customer's domain.
How fresh is Context.dev's brand data?
Freshness depends on the endpoint and maxAgeMs. Brand Retrieve defaults to about a 90-day maximum age, while scrape endpoints have their own cache controls and may return cached content unless you request a fresher result. No universal crawl cadence is promised.
Is web scraping with Context.dev legal?
Scraping public web data is generally legal in the U.S. (per hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn). You're responsible for respecting target sites' Terms of Service, robots.txt, rate limits, and applicable data-protection laws (GDPR/CCPA). The APIs are tools — how you use them is your responsibility.
