What Happened with Clearbit?

  • As of Q1 2024, this endpoint was shut down for general use. Only paying customers on higher-tier plans (Enterprise) may retain access, and even that access is restricted and undocumented.
  • No official deprecation notice was issued publicly, but multiple developers reported silent failures, 403s, and "access removed" messages.
  • Result: Thousands of developers and tools relying on Clearbit's logo service were left without a viable alternative or migration path.

What Is Context.dev?

Context.dev is a developer-focused API that extracts key branding elements from any domain, including logos, font styles, color palettes, metadata, and industry classification. This enables software platforms to automatically personalize user experiences with visual consistency and zero design lift.

Common use cases include:

  • Automatically themed onboarding flows
  • Branded client dashboards or portals
  • Pre-filled design templates
  • Embeddable widgets or microsites with native styling

Unlike the Clearbit Logo API or Logo.dev which return only a logo, Context.dev is a complete brand identity API that offers fast, scalable access to logos, colors, fonts, and design-critical information from any domain.

Final Thoughts

Clearbit was never designed to be a visual branding tool. It was a B2B data enrichment platform that happened to offer a logo API. With that feature now deprecated, teams looking for front-end ready, design-critical branding data need a new solution.

Context.dev steps in not just as a replacement, but a significant upgrade:

  • More data (logos + colors + fonts)
  • Better formats (SVGs, transparent backgrounds)
  • Faster integration (REST API with UI-ready payloads)
  • Fair pricing (no enterprise lock-in)
