URL to JSON: Extract Structured Data from Any Page

Convert any URL to JSON for free. Name the fields you want, such as price or author, and get structured data from the page, plus the API request to reuse.

How do I convert a URL to JSON?

  1. Enter the page URL.
  2. List the fields you want, separated by commas. Start a field with “list of” to get an array, for example “list of features”.
  3. Click Extract JSON. Fields the page does not state come back as null.
  4. Copy or download the JSON, or open the API request under the result to run the same extraction in code.

How does website to JSON extraction work?

Each field name becomes a property in a JSON Schema, with the words you typed as its description. The tool sends the URL and the schema to the Context.dev Scrape endpoint with the JSON format turned on. The page is rendered in a browser, then a language model fills in the schema using only what that page says. The exact schema and request are shown under each result.

Should I use a JSON Schema or CSS selectors?

CSS selectors are exact and add no credits to a scrape, but they break when a site changes its markup, and every site needs its own rules. A JSON Schema describes the data instead of its location, so one schema works across many sites with different layouts. Use CSS rules for a few stable pages, and schema extraction when you scrape many sites or pages that change.

How do I convert URLs to JSON with an API?

Send POST /v1/web/scrape with formats: { json: true }, a JSON Schema in jsonParams.schema, and optional guidance in jsonParams.instructions. The result is in json.data. A successful extraction costs 5 credits: 1 for the scrape and 4 for the JSON.

The data extraction API page covers schemas, nested objects, and CSS rules in more detail. The same endpoint is the web scraping API, so one request can also return Markdown, HTML, or a screenshot of the page.

What can you extract from a web page as JSON?

  • Product names, prices, and availability for price tracking
  • Job titles, locations, and salary ranges from job postings
  • Authors, publish dates, and summaries from articles
  • Plan names and prices from pricing pages for comparisons
  • Event names, dates, and venues from listing pages

Frequently asked questions

Is the URL to JSON tool free?
Yes. The tool is free for up to 50 extractions a day, with no account needed. Through the API, each extraction costs 5 credits, and the free plan includes 1,000 credits every month.
Do I need to write a JSON Schema?
No. Type field names in plain language and the tool writes the schema for you. Each field becomes a string that can be null, and fields that start with “list of” become arrays of strings. Through the API you can send your own JSON Schema with numbers, booleans, nested objects, and arrays of objects.
What happens when a field is not on the page?
The field comes back as null, or as an empty list for list fields. The tool tells the model to use only what the page states rather than guess.
Does it work on pages that load content with JavaScript?
Yes. The page is rendered in a real browser before extraction, so prices, listings, and other content added by client-side code are included. Pages behind a login cannot be read.
Can I extract the same fields from many pages?
Yes, with the API. Copy the schema shown under your result and send one request per URL. Because the schema describes the data rather than where it sits in the HTML, the same schema works across sites with different layouts.
