Layers gives ecommerce brands on-site search, merchandising, and product recommendations, built for Shopify Plus. Jake Casto is the founder and CEO, and he came across Context.dev the way a lot of founders do.
"I found you on X from your YC announcement, I think."
It started as a nice-to-have
The first plan was small and cosmetic. Layers' dashboard shows each user their own customers, and Jake wanted those companies to be recognizable at a glance.
"The initial idea was to show user logos on our dashboard, thought it would be cool."
That's a logo-lookup problem: turn a company name into the right mark without anyone on the team sourcing, downloading, and managing the assets by hand. Context.dev's brand API covered it, so the "cool" idea had a clear path to becoming a real feature.
Then the Markdown conversion caught his eye
While he was integrating for logos, Jake noticed Context.dev also did Markdown conversion, and that mattered because he already had a problem there.
"...but then saw the markdown conversion and we've had some issues with Cloudflare, so made the move."
Layers had been converting pages to Markdown through Cloudflare, and it hadn't been dependable. An integration he opened for one reason turned out to solve a reliability issue he'd been carrying separately.
One set of docs, one agent, half an hour
Both changes shipped in a single sitting. Jake pointed a coding agent at the documentation and let it do the work.
"It was very simple; I gave your docs to Devin and had it replace our existing Cloudflare Markdown usage and start fetching logos for customers to show on their dashboard. Took no more than a half hour."
Two integrations, one new feature and one infrastructure swap, from a docs link and an agent, in under thirty minutes.
Key benefits
- Two integrations in under 30 minutes: logo enrichment and the Markdown swap both shipped in one session.
- Docs an agent can run with: Jake handed the documentation to Devin and it completed both changes end to end.
- Customer logos on the dashboard: company names become recognizable brand marks, with no manual asset collection.
- Reliable Markdown conversion: a dependable replacement for a Cloudflare setup that had been giving him trouble.
The outcome
Layers set out to add a small visual touch to its dashboard and walked away with two things: customer logos that populate automatically, and a Markdown pipeline that no longer leans on a setup that had been failing. Both went in during one short session with a coding agent.
